Since 2008, The Lawn Boys has been delivering professional yard maintenance services to homeowners throughout Billings, Montana with one simple goal: do the job right, treat people fairly, and leave every property better than we found it.
What started as two lifelong friends with a pickup and a mower has grown into a dependable, trusted lawn care company built on Montana work ethic and long-term relationships.
Where It All Started
The Lawn Boys was founded by Jerry Wipf and Clarence Hofer, two farm-raised friends who grew up understanding what real work looks like. Early mornings. Long days. No excuses. On a farm, you learn quickly that details matter—and that lesson carried straight into lawn care.
We started this company as two single guys willing to work hard and do things the right way. From day one, we wanted to build something we could be proud of.
Growth, Family, and Purpose
Life changes. Families grow. Priorities sharpen.
Clarence married Julianne in 2009. Jerry married Sandie Sue in 2013. What began as a simple lawn care business quickly became something bigger—it became a responsibility to provide for our families and build something stable, honest, and lasting.
As The Lawn Boys grew, so did the type of work we were being asked to handle. What began with mowing and cleanup gradually expanded into landscaping support, sprinkler systems, and larger outdoor projects. Growth is good—but growth without focus can dilute quality.
By 2016, it became clear that in order to serve customers well and protect family priorities, we needed clarity in our lanes.
Clarence and Julianne made the decision to specialize fully in irrigation and landscaping, launching American Landscape and Irrigation. It wasn’t a split caused by disagreement—it was a strategic move rooted in family, focus, and long-term excellence.
The Lawn Boys concentrated fully on dependable lawn care and maintenance. Clarence built a company dedicated to sprinkler systems and landscape installation.
